About Newstalk

Listen to the online radio of Newstalk live, which was launched in 2002 in its Dublin studios as an independent radio station, originally named Newstalk 106. It initially broadcasted only in the Dublin area. In 2006, the station changed its name to its current form because it had successfully expanded its frequencies and had become a national broadcaster. Newstalk is owned by Bauer Media Audio Ireland. The radio station holds the distinction of being the number one speech-based commercial radio station in Ireland. Music is a rare occurrence, with songs playing only occasionally. Instead, the majority of airtime is dedicated to diverse talk shows. Naturally, the most prominent and recurring subjects are the news, including Ireland and world news, as well as related politics. Additionally, sports news and business updates are integral parts of the programming, along with regular weather reports. Throughout the day's colourful talk programmes, a wide range of topics is explored, including discussions on lifestyle, culture, history, religion, science, books, psychology, and philosophy. This enriches the broadcaster's intellectual perspective, and listeners also have the opportunity to participate in the radio discussions, as phone-in segments are incorporated into the programmes. On weekdays, the radio station begins its information coverage with three morning programmes from 6am to 9am. The day kicks off with the "Breakfast Briefing", providing an overview of the top news stories from 6am to 6:30am. Following that, "Breakfast Business" runs from 6:30am to 7am, hosted by the station's Business Editor, Joe Lynam. Finally, "Newstalk Breakfast" airs from 7am to 9am, presented by Shane Coleman and Ciara Kelly. The award-winning programme "Moncrieff" is also part of the schedule, airing on weekdays from 2pm to 4pm. It is hosted by Seán Moncrieff, who received the "Sexiest Radio Voice" award at the 3G Mobile Christmas Annual Awards in 2008. His programme has won twelve PPI/IMRO radio awards and two gongs at the New York Radio Awards.
