Ryan Tubridy remains off Radio 1 due to coronavirus

RTÉ has confirmed Ryan Tubridy is off work at the moment due to having tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. Oliver Callan is currently hosting the Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Ryan said: “Like so many other people in Ireland, I tested positive, but I was in the very fortunate position to have a very unintrusive experience, which I now have come to the end of. “While I’ve been at home watching television and listening to the radio, I have been bowled over by the extraordinary work of our front line heroes and their families who continue to make Ireland a healthier and safer place. JNLR: 81% of the population listen to radio every day

The latest radio listening figures show 81% of the population are tuning in every day, which translates into weekday figures of 3.2 million listeners. More than half tune into their local or regional station and 43% listen to a national station. Among the younger, 15 to 34-year market, 71% listen daily. RTÉ to close its DAB digital radio stations in major strategy change

RTÉ is to close its digital radio stations including RTÉ 2XM, RTÉ Pulse, RTÉ Gold, RTÉjr Radio & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra as part of a major revised strategy to address key issues facing the organisation. It says costs will need to be reduced by €60 million over three years (2020-2023), in addition to the reduction of 23% delivered by RTÉ between 2008 and 2018. Tributes paid to broadcaster RTÉ radio and TV broadcaster Gay Byrne

Listeners and colleagues across the radio industry are paying tribute to RTÉ broadcaster Gay Byrne who has died at the age of 85. Gay started work as a newsreader and continuity announcer on Radio Éireann in the late 1950s before moving to Granada Television in Manchester, where he worked on a variety of shows, interviewing acts including The Beatles.
