RTÉ Choice Music Prize shortlist announced on RTÉ 2FM

The shortlist for this year’s RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2021, in association with IMRO & IRMA, was announced today on RTÉ 2FM’s Tracy Clifford Show by Jim Carroll, chairman of the judging panel. RTÉ 2FM is celebrating the announcement of the shortlist across its schedule throughout the day with All Irish Music All Day from 6am to midnight.

DAB digital radio broadcasting ends in Ireland

Today marks the end of DAB digital radio transmissions in Ireland as RTÉ switches off its services on the platform. The broadcaster originally announced in 2019 it would also shut down the stations using DAB as their main outlet, but made a U-turn earlier this month. Now, RTÉ Gold, RTÉ 2XM, RTÉ Radio 1 Extra, RTÉ Pulse, and RTÉjr Radio continue online only, offering hope that they may one day return to DAB...

RTE digital radio services to continue online

RTÉ is ending transmissions on DAB digital radio at the end of March, but its DAB-only services will now continue online. Previously, the broadcaster announced it would end DAB transmissions and close RTÉ Gold, RTÉ 2XM, RTÉ Radio 1 Extra, RTÉ Pulse, and RTÉjr Radio. But in a U-turn, these stations will survive due to feedback from listeners. RTÉ says its decision to cease DAB transmission was driven by three main factors – the fact that DAB was the least utilised platform in Ireland; that RTÉ is the only Irish broadcaster on the DAB system, and cost avoidance...

A boost for Newstalk in the latest JNLR results

Newstalk is celebrating moving into second place as the nation’s second most listened to radio station in the latest JNLR results. At RTÉ, Morning Ireland, Liveline and Sunday with Miriam have also shown big increases during the pandemic for Radio 1, however, RTÉ 2fm has suffered a loss in weekday listeners including a little at Breakfast year on year. Morning Ireland is the most-listened-to radio programme in the country, increasing listenership by 62,000 (YoY) with 491,000 tuning in each morning. The figures, released today, covers the 12-month period from October 2019 to September 2020 but are missing a quarter of the required data than usual...

Opel Ireland to sponsor Today with Claire Byrne

Opel Ireland is the new sponsor of Today with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1 from today, Monday 7th September. The 12-month sponsorship consists of 6×10″ sponsor credited stings per day and 7 x sponsor credited promos across the RTÉ Radio 1 schedule per week, as well as homepage and podcast sponsorship. The sponsorship deal was brokered by Mediacom.
