RTÉ radio stations are holding a Halloween extravaganza on October 30th with lots of giveaways across the children. In a year that children across the country can’t traditionally Trick-Or-Treat, RTÉ Radio’s Trick Our Street campaign offers neighbours a chance to experience Halloween magic together. Opel Ireland to sponsor Today with Claire Byrne
Opel Ireland is the new sponsor of Today with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1 from today, Monday 7th September. The 12-month sponsorship consists of 6×10″ sponsor credited stings per day and 7 x sponsor credited promos across the RTÉ Radio 1 schedule per week, as well as homepage and podcast sponsorship. The sponsorship deal was brokered by Mediacom. Claire Byrne to host Today on RTÉ Radio 1
Claire Byrne is the new presenter of RTÉ Radio 1’s mid-morning ‘Today’ programme, starting next Monday at 10am. Sarah McInerney, current host of the slot, will remain with RTÉ but details of where she will appear in the schedule are yet to be released. “I am truly delighted, honoured and humbled to be taking on this new role at RTÉ Radio 1,” Claire commented today. RTÉ refuses to air television advert for Newstalk
Communicorp Media has accused RTÉ of double standards after refusing to air an advert for its national speech station Newstalk. The radio group has called on Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht Catherine Martin TD, to take action to drive reform of RTÉ. Communicorp says RTÉ told them it will not run the advert on-air but has already allowed it to run on the RTÉ Player. The advertisement to promote The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk was submitted to RTÉ on Friday 3rd July for broadcast on TV. Gold radio awards for Newstalk, Ocean FM and Radio 1
RTÉ Radio 1, Newstalk 106-108FM and Ocean FM took home Gold awards from this year’s virtual New York Festivals Radio Awards event. Newstalk was given the Best Innovation Gold for its Between The Lines “Living with a disability in Ireland” documentary, whilst Ocean FM was recognised for Best Human Interest Story for Getting Better, Not Bitter. RTÉ Radio 1 got Gold for The Case of Majella Moynihan documentary in the National Or International Affairs category, along with 16 other awards ranging from Silver to Finalist for dramas, social issues, history, culture and digital. Radio 1 to broadcast RTÉ’s Shine a Light moment
RTÉ is calling on the Irish public to come together to shine a light this Saturday, 11 April at 9pm to create a moment of solidarity in our battle against the Covid 19 pandemic. Coverage begins on RTÉ Radio 1 at 8:30pm with Shine Your Light with John Creedon featuring music from some of our finest artists including Martin Hayes and Glen Hansard, and poetry from Moya Cannon. Ryan Tubridy remains off Radio 1 due to coronavirus
RTÉ has confirmed Ryan Tubridy is off work at the moment due to having tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. Oliver Callan is currently hosting the Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Ryan said: “Like so many other people in Ireland, I tested positive, but I was in the very fortunate position to have a very unintrusive experience, which I now have come to the end of. “While I’ve been at home watching television and listening to the radio, I have been bowled over by the extraordinary work of our front line heroes and their families who continue to make Ireland a healthier and safer place. JNLR: 81% of the population listen to radio every day
The latest radio listening figures show 81% of the population are tuning in every day, which translates into weekday figures of 3.2 million listeners. More than half tune into their local or regional station and 43% listen to a national station. Among the younger, 15 to 34-year market, 71% listen daily. RTÉ to close its DAB digital radio stations in major strategy change
RTÉ is to close its digital radio stations including RTÉ 2XM, RTÉ Pulse, RTÉ Gold, RTÉjr Radio & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra as part of a major revised strategy to address key issues facing the organisation. It says costs will need to be reduced by €60 million over three years (2020-2023), in addition to the reduction of 23% delivered by RTÉ between 2008 and 2018. RTÉ says fees paid to its top contracted on-air presenters will also need to be cut by 15%, in addition to the 30+% cuts as agreed in previous years.
