About RTÉ Radio 1
Listen to the online radio of RTÉ Radio 1 live, Ireland's primary source of information, which began its broadcast nearly a century ago in 1926. Originally launched as "2RN", it marked the inception of the first radio service of the Irish Free State. Over its storied history, the station underwent several name changes and eventually settled on its current name in 1979, an abbreviation of its owner Raidió Teilifís Éireann, Ireland's National Public Service Broadcaster. RTÉ Radio 1 boasts the largest listenership in Ireland, not only keeping its audience up-to-date with the latest news from Ireland and around the world but also offering an enjoyable selection of music. The station features engaging phone-in discussions with listeners, along with sports news and weather reports, ensuring a well-rounded broadcast that caters to a wide range of interests. One of the station's flagship programmes is "Morning Ireland", which has been on the air since 1984. It is Ireland's most-listened-to and, consequently, the most influential programme for shaping worldviews in the country. "Morning Ireland" leads the way in delivering information about current affairs, politics, and sports in Ireland and across the globe. It airs every weekday from 7am to 9am and is presented by Rachael English, Gavin Jennings, Audrey Carville, Aine Lawlor, and Mary Wilson. RTE Radio One has several sister stations, including 2FM, Lyric FM, Raidió na Gaeltachta, Pulse, 2XM, RTÉjr, Gold, and Radio 1 Extra. Each of these stations reflects the high quality and diverse offerings of Raidió Teilifís Éireann, catering to different interests and ensuring that every type of listener finds content that appeals to them.
