Gold radio awards for Newstalk, Ocean FM and Radio 1

RTÉ Radio 1, Newstalk 106-108FM and Ocean FM took home Gold awards from this year’s virtual New York Festivals Radio Awards event. Newstalk was given the Best Innovation Gold for its Between The Lines “Living with a disability in Ireland” documentary, whilst Ocean FM was recognised for Best Human Interest Story for Getting Better, Not Bitter. RTÉ Radio 1 got Gold for The Case of Majella Moynihan documentary in the National Or International Affairs category, along with 16 other awards ranging from Silver to Finalist for dramas, social issues, history, culture and digital. Radio 1 Extra also got two awards, a Silver and Finalist badge, for digital content. Two docs from Off The Ball were also recognised with Finalist certificates...

iRadio, Beat and Red FM unite for streamed concert

iRadio, Beat 102-103 and Cork’s Red FM are coming together to present a special streamed concert called Heroes Aid Live to raise funds for frontline workers while also offering company and entertainment to many listeners. The stations recently approached Heroes-Aid about the concert and the charity was delighted with this additional cross station radio support. 96FM and C103 raise over €77k for Frontline Legends

An appeal to support Cork’s Frontline Legends by local radio stations, 96FM and C103, has raised over €77,000. The one-day event took place on Good Friday between 0700 and 2300. Both brands encouraged listeners to make a one-off donation of €19 via their websites or by telephone. The Wireless-owned radio stations teamed up with the charities attached to the two biggest hospitals in Cork where the majority of confirmed cases locally will be treated: Cork University Hospital and The Mercy University Hospital...

Radio Nova broadcasts a Stay At Home Music Festival

Radio Nova is spending the Easter Weekend broadcasting its ‘Stay At Home Music Festival’. With the current lockdown continuing for a further three weeks, the station has live music from almost 100 of the world’s most iconic artists performing on one ‘radio stage’. Radio 1 to broadcast RTÉ’s Shine a Light moment

RTÉ is calling on the Irish public to come together to shine a light this Saturday, 11 April at 9pm to create a moment of solidarity in our battle against the Covid 19 pandemic. Coverage begins on RTÉ Radio 1 at 8:30pm with Shine Your Light with John Creedon featuring music from some of our finest artists including Martin Hayes and Glen Hansard, and poetry from Moya Cannon. Ireland’s independent radio stations will broadcast a special address to the people of Ireland from President Michael D. Higgins today. Ryan Tubridy remains off Radio 1 due to coronavirus

RTÉ has confirmed Ryan Tubridy is off work at the moment due to having tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. Oliver Callan is currently hosting the Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Ryan said: “Like so many other people in Ireland, I tested positive, but I was in the very fortunate position to have a very unintrusive experience, which I now have come to the end of. “While I’ve been at home watching television and listening to the radio, I have been bowled over by the extraordinary work of our front line heroes and their families who continue to make Ireland a healthier and safer place. Minister supports radio during COVID-19 with €2.5m

Minister Richard Bruton is allocating €2.5 million to independent radio stations for the support of news, current affairs and information programming during the Covid 19 crisis. The IBI has welcomed the move saying it will make a significant difference in ensuring that independent stations can continue to broadcast throughout the current crisis which has seen a collapse in advertising revenue. The sudden reduction in revenue had threatened the continuation of news and current affairs programming at a time when the importance and impact of radio at a time of national crisis is widely acknowledged...

PJ & Jim move breakfast show on Classic Hits

Breakfast is moving later in the day for PJ & Jim on Classic Hits as they move their show to an 8am start.
